For the same reasons I don’t get sports and religion, I don’t understand why people are so emotional over Joe Paterno’s death.
I mean, death is sad, but he was 85 and lived a good life, that’s kinda the best case scenario.
Sure, he was the patriarch of my university, but I’ve graduated and college is in the past. Also, Penn State’s football abilities have nothing to do with me. It’s a wonderful university that gave me an education I value, not a football team.
I do appreciate that Joe Paterno’s success led to success for Penn State (after all, half of our library is because of him) but I disapprove of our capitalist society that allows football to generate an overwhelming flow of cash to institutes as crucial as universities.
